Students,
We have enjoyed a relatively pleasant and warm winter so far. However, this weekend we are expecting severe drops in temperatures. Snow is expected to start on Saturday and continue for several days. Strong, high winds are also expected. Please check the weather before going out. It is very important to dress appropriately for the wind chill(the measure of how cold the wind feels on your skin) which can freeze your skin in a matter of minutes. (Please see the chart below).
Wear hats as you can lose 40% of your body heat through your head. Please review the booklet found at this link (https://messaging.umt.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://seagrant.uaf.edu/bookstore/pubs/SG-ED-28.pdf ) for tips on dressing in the cold and windy weather.
If you are traveling by car over the break, please be extremely careful driving. Road conditions can change rapidly. We have had many severe accidents happen to students who were not prepared for the bad roads. Please check out this link for a Survival Kit that you should have in your car in case you are stranded in bad weather (https://messaging.umt.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.dor.state.ne.us/rca/docs/winter-aware.pdf ).
